International development refers to a distinct field of practice, industry, and research with focus on economic growth, alleviating poverty, and improving living conditions. The international community has codified development aims in the Millennium Development Goals and Sustainable Development Goals. International development seeks to implement long-term solutions to problems by helping developing countries create the necessary capacity needed to provide such sustainable solutions to their problems. In context of human development, it usually encompasses foreign aid, governance, healthcare, education, poverty reduction, gender equality, disaster preparedness, infrastructure, economics, human rights, environment and issues associated with these.
RSS engages in design and research on international development projects that may consist of a single, transformative project to address a specific problem or a series of projects targeted at several aspects of society. More recently, our focus in this field has been projects that aim towards empowering women, building local economies, and caring for the environment. Moreover, RSS focuses its service provision along international development sectors including among others water and sanitation, health, education, shelter, human rights, livelihoods, finance and infrastructure.
We are conversant with and apply concepts of international development in our assignments that comprise economic inequality, dignity, participation, appropriateness, sustainability, capacity building and rights-based approach. For each assignment, RSS entrenches and triangulates data on many different measures of human development, many of them related to different sectors. They include national GDP, literacy rates, life expectancy, human development index, Gini coefficient, human security index, per capita income, maternal survival rate, HIV infection rates etc. We also address indicators of social change to complement economic factors as indicators of development and in formulating development policies.
